In the Spotlight today is the 14th Annual Phoenix Film Festival (PFF), a celebration dedicated to creating a welcoming and invigorating experience for its visiting filmmakers and cineastes. Offering a broad array of incredible stories, mind-expanding workshops, and on-site festival parties that last well into the evening, PFF is fueled by dedicated volunteers and by a deep love for independent voices. All festival events take place in and around the state-of-the-art Harkins Scottsdale 101 Theater, making eight days of networking a breeze.
PFF proudly offers capacity crowds and just the sort of enthusiastic audiences every great filmmaker deserves. All domestic features at the festival enjoy three screenings during opening weekend, and all international features enjoy two. Feature filmmakers participating in the festival also receive round-trip airfare and hotel accommodations and are invited to participate in the festival's high school film education programs, a slew of workshops and Q&As designed to nurture and shape a new generation of creativity and film appreciation.
The festival welcomes great cinema across a broad variety of competitive categories, including Narrative Features, World Cinema Shorts, Documentaries, and more. There's even a Screenplay Search category, exclusively for great, unproduced scripts by talented writers. In each category of PFF competition, artists compete for the festival's coveted Copper Wing trophy. The greatest reward offered by PFF, however, is the experience of the festival itself. PFF supports and develops the artistic appreciation, educational opportunities, and growth of independent film within and outside of Arizona. The Foundation's primary functions through its programs are to promote the exhibition of independent films and to conduct educational programs that teach the art of independent filmmaking.

Last year's PFF marked world premieres of extraordinary films including the darkly comic Favor, the crime drama Down and Dangerous, and the Nashville-fueled music documentary Music City USA. In 2009, PFF was the launch-pad for Official Rejection, Paul Osborne's critically acclaimed exploration of the too-often cutthroat nature of the film festival circuit.
