In the Spotlight today is the 25th Annual New Orleans Film Festival (NOFF), continuing its legacy as one of the most invigorating and unpredictable celebrations of cinema on the festival circuit. Named by MovieMaker Magazine as one of "25 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee" for the past three years, NOFF offers top-notch programming and unforgettable, nightly parties in one of the world's most cinematic cities. A melting pot of musical vibrancy, flavorful foods, colorful characters, and thrilling conversation, New Orleans makes an ideal home for a film festival with something for everyone.
Only at NOFF can participants be wowed by Mardi Gras floats while networking over filmmaker brunch. And only at NOFF can up-and-coming filmmaking talents chat leisurely with Oscar winners at mansion parties in the French Quarter. To sweeten the pot for its visitors from out-of-town, the festival proudly offers two nights of complimentary lodging to every accepted film. With so much hospitality and so many opportunities for fun and exploration, it's little wonder that last year's NOFF welcomed more than 22,000 film lovers from near and far.
Each year, NOFF awards substantial prizes (totaling more than $80,000 USD) to outstanding films in seven categories. With a festival jury that has consisted of Academy Award winner Melissa Leo, Independent Lens producer Lois Vossen, and Nigel Smith of IndieWire, NOFF allows gifted filmmakers the career-making exposure they crave. Pairing that stellar platform with an audience that has included Oscar winners Lupita Nyong'o and Steve McQueen, and nominees Patricia Clarkson, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Alfre Woodard, this festival is a down-home recipe for big-screen success.
UPCOMING DEADLINE
April 11, 2014 - Regular Deadline
MISSION AND OBJECTIVE
NOFF engages, educates, and inspires its visitors with the magic and majesty of great cinema.
MORE ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
This year, the festival expands by adding a new mentorship program for black directors, made possible by a grant from the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences. This steady growth of the festival dovetails with New Orleans' increasing reputation as a major film and television hub, as the city has recently played host to Beasts of the Southern Wild, Django Unchained, 12 Years a Slave, Dallas Buyers Club, True Detective, and more.
NOFF takes full advantage of The Big Easy's local talent pool and industry presence, to the benefit of all who participate in the festival experience. Submit your film to NOFF today, and experience the magic of New Orleans for yourself!
