In the Spotlight today is the 11th Annual In the Palace International Short Film Festival, tapping professional filmmakers into an expansive network of international partners, trainers, and film lovers who can launch great short-form material to the next level of visibility and acclaim. Established in 2003, the festival grew from a competitive forum for student films into one of the region's largest and most prestigious short film festivals.
At once a professional and an educational environment, In the Palace offers filmmakers of different ages, experiences, and backgrounds incredible opportunities to collaborate within a cross-cultural framework unlike any other, against the backdrop of a beautiful Bulgarian seaside resort. In addition to its stellar lineup of short films under 27 minutes in runtime, In the Palace boasts a series of thought-provoking Q&As that allow each festival filmmaker to engage directly with audience members who have been influenced by his or her work. Visiting filmmakers can also enter the festival's Filmer Forge Pitching Session, an event designed to help participants fashion and strengthen their next project. There's also a Filmer Forge Market on-hand, uniquely designed to help talented filmmakers angle their wares towards some of the biggest names in European distribution.
In addition to enjoying complimentary local transportation, complimentary lodging for four nights, two festival passes, and access to all receptions and gala events, participating filmmakers will receive a small stipend for each film selected for the International competition. This fee will be paid in 'Kitra,' the festival's own currency, good at all cafes, restaurants, and bars that partner with the festival. The most valuable prize, however, is the richness and energy of the festival network itself-and all that it might create in the future.
