In the Spotlight today is the 23rd Annual Florida Film Festival, an Academy-qualifying celebration of some of the brightest talents in cinema, hosted within one of America's most beloved travel destinations. A stone's throw away from Orlando and DisneyWorld, the festival offers stellar cinematic experiences for the whole family and has been touted by MovieMaker Magazine as one of the "20 Coolest Film Festivals in the World" and by Chris Gore's Ultimate Film Festival Survival Guide as one of the 10 best film festivals in the world.
Each year, the Florida Film Festival nabs extraordinary guests from across the industry. Heavyweights including Oliver Stone, Robert Wise, Christopher Walken, and Glenn Close have all mixed and mingled with festival attendees and participated in eye-opening forums, panels, and galas. Just as important, the festival is no stranger to launching careers -- before earning Oscar nominations for writing and directing Beasts of the Southern Wild, Benh Zeitlin screened two projects at the Florida Film Festival and took home the coveted Special Jury Award for his efforts.
Filmmakers with narrative or documentary projects in competition at the festival will be granted up to six nights of hotel hospitality and round-trip airfare. Two nights of hotel hospitality will be extended to all other attending filmmakers. The winners of the festival's Live-Action Short and Animated Short categories will automatically earn eligibility for consideration at the Academy Awards.
