In the Spotlight today is the 10th Annual Big Apple Film Festival (BAFF), showcasing extraordinary independent cinema from the heart of New York, as well as specially selected works from around the world. Praised by MovieMaker Magazine as one of "25 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee" and as one of the "25 Coolest Film Festivals," BAFF eagerly connects emerging cinematic talents with established industry professionals, all while celebrating the brashness, diversity, and generosity of one of the world's greatest cities.
Each year, BAFF presents its coveted Golden Apple Award to an individual who represents fantastic achievement in New York's dynamic independent film community. Previous Golden Apple recipients have included Oscar nominee Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me), producer Anthony Bregman (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), and Tony Award-winner Alan Cumming (The Good Wife). Additionally, the festival's NY Emerging Talent Award has been presented to Oscar nominee Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network), Louisa Krause (Martha Marcy May Marlene), and Rachel Boston of (500) Days of Summer.
BAFF proudly welcomes a stellar array of industry guests and panelists, all for the benefit of the festival's participating filmmakers and rising talents. Previous panelists and keynote speakers have included representatives from Samuel Goldwyn Films, Magnolia Pictures, HBO, and First Run Features. Year after year, BAFF has partnered with a slew of New York's best independent film organizations and media outlets to ensure every guest honored at BAFF leaves the five-day event with great connections and invigorating ideas.
