Large enough to attract the world's most notable actors, directors, and producers-yet intimate enough to establish valuable connections in a unique and relaxed way-AFF offers an ideally unpretentious atmosphere in which to enjoy some of the best International, Canadian, and Atlantic Canadian films. Helpful staff and volunteers are on-hand to provide personalized service, and participating filmmakers enjoy full access to all films, festivities, industry panels, master classes, luncheons, and a range of one-on-one meeting opportunities. The result is a festival experience that's exciting, comprehensive, and creatively enriching from beginning to end.
In 2012 alone, AFF screened the world premiere of Shandi Mitchell's directorial debut feature, The Disappeared, as well as Nikolaj Arcel's A Royal Affair, Leos Carax' Holy Motors, and Jacques Audiard's Rust and Bone. These and other acclaimed works played alongside exciting cinema from talented filmmakers on the brink of international discovery. Offering monetary prizes and film production services to talented storytellers in a range of competitive categories, AFF is proud to draw well-deserved attention to filmmakers for whom storytelling is a powerful passion.
