In the Spotlight today is the 23rd Annual Aspen Shortsfest, an Oscar-qualifying showcase for emerging artists, established film professionals, and adoring cineastes, all set against the backdrop of one of America's most breathtaking destinations. Each spring, Aspen Shortsfest's intimate atmosphere, diverse screenings of American and international films (many of them premieres), and scenic setting in the heart of the Colorado Rockies provide a unique experience for appreciative filmmakers and film-lovers alike.
At Aspen Shortsfest, the diverse, thought-provoking cinematic landscape is just as breathtaking as its snowcapped mountain surroundings. With a heady blend of animated, dramatic, documentary, and comedic short films, the festival offers unforgettable experiences to satisfy even the most diverse tastes. Cash prizes are doled out in a range of competitive categories, and the international visibility of the festival gives a welcome jolt of publicity to talented short-form artistry.
Taking full advantage of Aspen's welcoming and relaxing resort community, Aspen Shortsfest welcomes special guests from around the world to participate in public screenings, panels, workshops, and parties -- each centered on the joys of filmmaking, artistry, and professional networking.

MORE ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
Last year's International Competition honored a diverse spread of fantastic films from around the globe. Highlights included The Night of the Bear, an animated film from Switzerland that tackles issues of social justice; Grandpa and Me and a Helicopter to Heaven, a Swedish documentary that embraces the natural passage of life; and Pieces, a Spanish meditation on the effects of dementia.
Three Aspen Shortsfest North American premieres, The Voorman Problem, Do I Have to Take Care of Everything?, and Room on the Broom recently shortlisted for 2014 Academy Award consideration. Alum and past jury member Jason Reitman (Labor Day) calls Aspen Shortsfest "one of my favorite film festivals in the world. Young filmmakers often ask me where to send their shorts, and I always say Aspen."
